Many of us were raised to pursue goals of “doing good” or achieving ‘success’ above discovering our true selves on a soul level. Instead, we’re taught to conform to imposed ideas of success and spend a MASSIVE chunk of our lives trying to appear that we’re barreling down this road of success that we don’t even want to be on. Eventually, this way of being becomes the norm, we get comfortable, and we simply stop exploring.

We one day realize that we’ve spent our lives trying to be like other people and that this way of life isn’t working. Check out this commercial of Shaquille O’Neal walking in someone else’s shoes. Have yourself a good chuckle but pay attention to the underlying message.

You have options. You can live according to how you were raised, or you can walk the path that’s entirely unique to you. I believe that we all have a specific growth process where we evolve into a higher version of ourselves to affect that same change in the people connected to us and in the world. If the plan is to “live our best life”…then why do so many of us NOT? The answer lies in what’s blocking us.

To start walking your unique path work to overcome these 5 blocks:

  • Objections from outsiders: Other people’s objections to our life choices can bring up the fear of judgment, cause us to value others’ opinions over our own, and allow that fear to inform our decisions to avoid judgment.
  • Confusion: Your unique path will feel right even in the face of objections and opposition. You may also feel triggered and be met with some resistance. To get clear, try being curious and honest about what’s coming up about your path.
  • Imposters Syndrome or Pedestal Syndrome: Believing that you aren’t as competent as others perceive you to be or putting yourself in a position of inferiority can bring up self-limiting beliefs that someone else’s path is better than yours.
  • Attaching to outcomes: Gripping on to expectations of what the journey should be like is a set-up for disappointment. We become disillusioned that it’s less risky to stay on the road that’s familiar, convenient, and comfortable rather than following our soul’s path.
  • The Fear Factor: Most of us have some fear when considering abandoning the status quo. Breaking out of your comfort zone requires effort and energy, bringing with it a degree of pain and difficulty. It’s how you get to the gold!

Embracing your unique path means moving through the blocks and discovering the real you. Not what you do and how you do it, but who you are being and how you show up in the world. So… who are you really? Who do YOU say you are?

There are all kinds of experts out there. You name it, there’s an “expert” for it, but NOBODY is an expert on you except you. Nobody can tell you what’s correct and best for you but you. So do you and follow your own unique path. It was made for only you anyway.
